Here, you can spend leisurely hours sipping coffee and taking in the stunning views. Villa Gaia effortlessly combines original charm, contemporary styling, and a strong sense of place, creating a unique and welcoming atmosphere. As you relax in its meticulously restored interiors, gaze at the sublime views from the rooftop terrace, or explore the labyrinthine, whitewashed streets of the town, you’ll feel transported to another world, one that continuously amazes and delights.
Inside Villa Gaia:
Accommodation at Villa Gaia spans three floors, offering a modern, progressive interpretation of Patmos’s rich history and culture. The comprehensive restoration of the house, with sections dating back to the 9th century, was undertaken with rigorous respect for tradition, using local stone and tiles. The villa’s intriguing structure and original features have been maintained and enhanced, blending seamlessly with contemporary aesthetics. The décor includes an eclectic mix of mid-century modern, Italian, and vintage pieces, complemented by contemporary artwork from young European artists and Eastern Mediterranean furnishings.
Entering from the street, you pass through a partially covered vestibule leading to either the ground floor or, via a classic Patmian open-air staircase, the first floor.
Outside Villa Gaia:
The first-floor communal areas open onto a small terrace with ingeniously designed double-decker seating scattered with cushions. A walkway connects this terrace to the second living area, with steps leading down to one of the street gates.
The rooftop terrace is the highlight for al fresco living, perfect for early morning yoga and pre- and post-dinner drinks. Furnished with well-cushioned seating, the panoramic vistas are phenomenal: the 11th-century Monastery of St John the Theologian, the white-washed houses of Chora, the southern headland of Patmos, and the sparkling blue waters of the Aegean stretching to the horizon.
